The study noted that Israel possesses three international airports recognized by the International Air Transport Association and the International Civil Aviation Organization: Lod Airport (Ben Girion), Haifa Airport, and Ramon Airport in the southern Negev, near Umm al-Rashrash (Eilat). It also has eleven domestic airports, nine military airports, and one spaceport.
Most of these airports existed in Palestine before the establishment of the state of Israel. The occupation forces recently highlighted Ramon Airport, which has a capacity of approximately 2 million passengers annually and a development plan to accommodate 4.2 million passengers. Despite the low demand, approximately 486,000 passengers traveled through it last year, the occupation announced a package of easing restrictions, most notably allowing some Palestinians to travel through tourism companies. The number of passengers was estimated at approximately 24 members of the Bethlehem Pharmacists Syndicate to Cyprus and Turkey. The occupation is also considering expanding this facility to the United Arab Emirates and other Arab countries.
First: Expected travel procedures through Ramon Airport:
1. Approval of a new crossing in the West Bank for travel to the airport.
2. Approval of specific companies for booking and travel from the crossing.
3. Approval of buses transporting passengers, excluding individual cases.
4. A security company to escort buses after inspection procedures at the crossing.
